City Planning
Sir,—The report, headed. “Vacant Land Inspected.’’ in your issue of May 3 is of considerable interest and appeals to me as the sort of planning needed for the development of this city and province. Judging by the fact that six local members of Parliament thought it worth while to give up their time, my family is not the only one to be impressed by the idea of an electric railway service from Lyttelton to Rolleston. Christchurch will expand willy nilly, and any ideas such as this one which will lead to an orderly and planned expansion should be thoroughly explored. Would it be possible to grasp this one firmly by the tail before it vanishes, as so many other ideas have done? Perhaps someone could enlarge on this scheme of Mr Walker’s and give up a stage-by-stage picture of the actual steps required to bring his idea into being. I hope your paper will follow this up.— Yours, etc.,
