EXECUTIVES’ PLANE
Private Gruman At Harewood
Christchurch Airport was host to a sleek, modern American business executive aircraft yesterday afternoon when representatives of Comalco Industries of Australia and the Kaiser Aluminium and Chemical Corporation of the United States arrived direct from Melbourne in a private Grumman Gulfstream.
This plane is popular in America for carrying businessmen on inter-state trips, and is also capable of much longer flights. Slightly resembling the Vickers Viscount, although much smaller, the Grumman is powered by two RollsRoyce Dart turbo-prop engines. It has a maximum cruising speed of 356 miles an hour at 25.000 ft. It is fully pressurised, and with maximum fuel and payload has a range of 1350 miles. It carries a crew of two, and has provision for 10 to 12 passengers. The Grumman reached Harewood at about 3.45 p.m. and left for Invercargill at 5.15 p.m. in heavy rain.
