Situation.—A depression is moving on to the North Island from the west. A ridge of high pressure lies to the south of New Zealand. Forecast:—

Marlborough.—Fresh to strong southerlies about Cook Strait, moderate south-east winds elsewhere; overcast, with widespread rain; cool temperatures. Outlook: showery. -■ Nelson and West Coast.—Moderate to fresh easterlies; cloudy, with periods of rain, the rain easing in South Westland during the day; little change in temperatures. Outlook: improving to partly cloudy. Canterbury.—Moderate to fresh winds from an easterly quarter; cloudy, with rain widespread about and north of Banks Peninsula; moderate temperatures.
