NEWSPRINT EXPORTS

50,000 Tons fN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. May 11. Exports of newsprint were almost 50.000 tons in 1960, the Minister of Fores’s (Mr Gerard) said today. ; The export trade in forest products earned £8.500.000. compared with only £400.000 10 years ago.

Pulp exports were 70.000 tons, and paper exports 55.000 tons at a value of £2.800.000 and £3,500.000 respectively. Timber and logs made up the remainder. Timber exports and pulp exports dropped slightly compared with the previous year, because of the deterioration of the Australian market. There was little change in the log trade to Japan, which amounted to £559.000 in 1960

Imports of forest products were higher than the previous year.
