W. J. Godfrey In Semi-Finals

WHAKATANE, May 10. Both W. J. Godfrey (Tit!rangi) and T. Ormsby (Waitomo) placed themselves in the semi-finals of the New Zealand Maori golf championship tournament at Whakatane today. But the 1960 women’s champion, Mrs P. August (Napier), was eliminated in the quarter-finals today by Mrs E K. Graham (Te Awamutu).

Godfrey will meet J Matehaere (Te Awamutu) and Ormsby will play C. Hurihanganui (Springfield) tomorrow morning and the final will be played in the afternoon. There are still two former national champions left in the women’s tournament. Mrs R. Sage (St. Andrews) who won the title in 1953 and 1958 and Mrs Kaua (Poverty Bay) titleholder in 1956, 1957 and 1959, qualified for today’s semi-finals. With them are Mrs Graham and Mrs T.
