Golf GRACE CUP

First Day Of S.I. Section “The Preu” Special Service TIMARU, May 10. The Canterbury women’s golf team lost its first-round match against Southland. 2-4. in the first day’s play of the Russel Grace Cup tournament at the Timaru Golf Club's course at Levels today. Miss S. Grigg won her match with Mrs J. E, Sievwright, 5 and 4, and Miss B. Murray beat Mrs A. Lawrie, 4 and 3. Teams from Southland, Otago, South Canterbury, Canterbury and Nelson-West Coast-Marlborough, are competing in the South Island division of the trophy. The weather today was perfect. The two South Canterbury teams and Southland led at the end of the day with four points each.

A stableford bogey foursomes played in the morning was won by Mrs R. Interman (Nelson-West Coast-Marl-borough), and Mrs J. E Sievwright (Southland), with a score Of 29 points (7). The Russell Grace Cup contest is played over five rounds. The winners of the South Island and North Island divisions will play the final within one month at a place to be decided. Today’s matches resulted:—
