AEROMODELLING CONTESTS

12 A.T.C. Cadets To Represent S.L

Thirty-eight Air Training Corps cadets from all squadrons in the South Island flew their model aircraft at Weedons yesterday in contests to select 12 cadets to represent the South Island against North Island cadets tor the de Havilland Aeromodelling Trophy. The first three cadets tn each of four classes, who will represent the South Island, are:

Class A.—Free flight rubber power: G. C. Brown (Nelson), A. W. Pidgeon (Dunedin), D. W. Guild (Christchurch).

Class B—-Free flight, gas or diesel: J. Julian (Oamaru), M. Stevens (Christchurch), D. M. Scott (Invercargill).

Class C.—Hand-launched glider: A. E. Woodfield (Invercargill), R. J. Cameron (Oamaru), D. J. Pahl (Nelson). Class D.—Control-line scale service model: B J. Meredith (Christchurch), R. D Leach (Dunedin), J. Polson (Oamaru).

The 12 cadets will fly to Auckland in a Bristol freighter on May 12 and will compete against North Island cadets at Whenuapai on May 13 and 14. The party will be accompanied by Squadron Leader L. A. R. Hill. Flight Lieutenant B. J. Grigg, and Flight Sergeant D. R. Parker, of R.N.Z.A.F station. Wigram.
