RENOVATION OF MAMMALS
Work For Museum’s Biology Hall
Mammals from the Canterbury Museum's extensive collection are being renovated and retouched for the new hall of biology. The mammals have not been on display since the museum was redesigned and opened again. The work is being done by Mr R. J. Jacobs with the assistance of Mr R. H. Riccalton. It mainly consists of mending tears or splits and remodelling soft parts. The Acting-Director of the museum (Mr E. G. Turbott) said yesterday that when the hall was opened it would include a collection of mammals of all types and from all parts of the world. “They will be exhibited using all the new techniques of display such as those in the bird hall,” said Mr Turbott. • The mammals would illustrate the story of biological evolution and the hall would include a section on general biology. Animals which had been introduced into New Zealand, such as the red deer, the thar, and the chamois, would be included. The new hall will be the first hall inside the door. It is not known when it will be opened.
