BLENHEIM, May 10
A former All Black and a musterer were found dead yesterday with a crashed truck at the bottom of a bank in the Upper Awatere Valley. Marlborough. They were Charles James Fitzgerald, aged 61, a labourer, single, who was a 1922 All Black, and Jack Russell Nesbit, aged about 37. a musterer, single.
Both worked on Upcot station in the Upper Awatere From police examination, it now appears that the two men lay at the bottom of a 200 ft drop for about 16 hours before they were found. The fatality was discovered about midday by a passing motorist.
The fact that a wristlet watch worn by Nesbit had stopped at 8 o’clock and also a doctor’s opinion indicate that the truck made its fatal plunge about 8 p.m. on Monday.
