BAND MEMBERS SUCCESSFUL

Rangiora Players In Solo Contests Two young members of the Rangiora Brass Band gained places in the Canterbury solo championships held at the week-end and several others were weir up in the placings. In the under 13 comet championships, eight - year - old Neville Grenfell won the melody section with 79 points, while B. Macfarlane was third, only one point behind the secctid place competitor. Another member. Gary Henderson, was fifth with 64 points. Several others performed satisfactorily in other age groups without gaining major placings. The over-all achievement was considered satisfactory by the conductor (Mr L. R Grenfell), who said some of the boys were making their first appearance in open solo competitions.
