(N Z. Press Association! WHAKATANE. May 9. With a par score of 70 in the morning, and an afternoon round of 72. W, J. Godfrey (Auckland) was top qualifier for the New Zealand Maori golf' championship, which started at I Whakatane today. T. Ormsby, the Waltomo player who is trying to win the title for the third successive time, was three strokes behind Godfrey. In the women's championships, the title holder, Mrs P. August (Napier), beat Mrs M. Sciascia (Porangahau) in the first round of the post-section play.
