Dr. Finlay Re-Elected
(N.Z. Press Association! WELLINGTON, May 9. Dr. A. M. Finlay was reelected national president of the New Zealand Labour Party at the party’s annual conference in Wellington today. There were five contestants, Dr. Finlay gaining a substantial majority over the runner-up, Mr H. L. J. May. Mr J. A. Bateman was reelected vice-president on the first count of votes for 11 contestants. The runner-up was Mr N. E. Kirk, member of Parliament for Lyttelton. Divisional area representatives elected were:— Area 1: Mr A. L. Learning (Kaukapakapa); 2: Mr W. J. Cuthbert (Auckland); 3: Mr D. D. Stamp (Manukau); 4: Mr E. A. Waters (Hamilton); 5: Mr E. C. Richards (Gisborne); 6: Mr R. M. Barclay (New Plymouth); 7: Mr E. J. Hemmingsen (Bunnythorpe); 9: Mr S. Gladstone (Greymouth); 10: Mr N. E. Kirk (Christchurch); 11: Mr P. H. Weith (Timaru); 12: Mr J. Dalsiel (Dunedin); 13: Mr O. J. Henderson (Invercargill). Mrs R. D. Fraser was returned as women’s representative on the national executive in a keenly-contested ballot containing 12 nominees. The chairman of the Maori policy committee, Mr P. T Watene. was elected Maori representative.
