NEW N.Z. LOTTERY
August 28 Opening
(N.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 9. The Government’s new £30,000 lottery will open on August 28, the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Gotz) announced today. “I hope this lottery will find favour with the New Zealand public, both as a means of saving overseas exchange and to aid the projects to which art union profits are applied," he said. Mr Gotz said there was no suggestion that the sale of tickets in the lottery would be unlimited. “But the present method of selling through 2600 agents, some of whom must have unsold tickets, must provide for a percentage of tickets unsold,” he said. “This aspect is being very closely studied and I feel sure that when the final details are published the New Zealand lottery will offer odds as good as and be an adequate substitute for any overseas lottery ” Mr Gotz said. Ships In Dry Dock.—The 499-ton coastal vessel, Holmlea. which has been in dry dock for painting and cleaning since Monday, left yesterday to resume her normal trade. The 622-ton coastal vessel, Breeze is expected to enter the dock this week for its annual overhaul.
