Architect For Building
Designing buildings for the Government Life Insurance Office is a family business for the old-established Christchurch firm of Collins and Son. The architect for the new building, Mr J. K. Collins, is a grandson of Mr J. J. Collins, who designed the original Government Life building constructed on the site in 1893. When alterations were made to the building in 1902, Mr J. J. Collins was again the architect. His son, Mr J. G. Collins, was called in when alterations to the next-door building were needed in 1937 and again for major internal alterations for the origin? 1 building in 1952 Acting as a witness at the signing of yesterday’s contract was a fourth generation C. ifins—Mr R. J. Collins, an architectural student, aged 20, who has done a lot of work on drawings for the new building.
