SHEPARD’S FLIGHT

“Experiment Was Risky”

(NZ.P.A -Reuter—Copyright)

MOSCOW, May 7.

A Soviet rocket scientist today accused the United States of rushing incautiously into manned space flight and said the astronaut, Commander Alan Shepard had faced “great danger and exceptional difficulties.” reported the Associated Press. Professor Georgy Pokrov, sky told Russian listeners over Moscow Radio: “We learn from the foreign news, papers that Shepard had to spend a, long time in the rocket capsule due to several delays resulting from various hitches.

“This testifies to lack of co-ordination and to the risky nature of the whole experiment.” He said that calculations showed that the thrust of the Vostock rockets used to shoot Major Yari Gagarin into space was 50 times greater than that used in the American Project Mercury.
