FOG SLOWS TRAFFIC

Heavy In Some

Areas

Traffic in the Marshland. New Brighton. Walnoni and Riccarton districts was forced to slow down almost to a crawl when thick fog blanketed those areas between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. yesterday. The fog was general in Christchurch, but in most other areas was only patchy, except for the roads near Hagley Park. Although drivers had to be careful and could only move slowly there were no reports of disruption to public transport At Harewood airport the landing field was not affected and aircraft were able to land and take off without difficulty. Buses were running to timetable and no taxis had to stop because of the fog.

By 10 p.m. the fog had begun to lift and from then was only patchy, even in the areas which had been most affected.
