RACECOURSE THEFT
Man Poses As Cashier

DUNEDIN, May 7. About £25 in notes was stolen from the soup stall at the Forbury Park racecouse on Saturday night by a man who posed as the cashier. The theft occurred shortly before the fourth race at 7.55 p.m., when a large crowd was near the stall. According to the caterer. Mr J. B. Brown, the man told the three attendants in the stall he was collecting the cash, took the money, and disappeared. The theft was not noticed until shortly afterwards when the real cashier employed by Mr Brown came to collect the money, which is done at regular intervals throughout the evening. At the time of the theft, the cashier was collecting money from another stall in the building. Detectives on the course were called, and an unsuccessful search was made for the man. Inquiries are still being made.
