Musician
A former West Coast w oman who lived in Christchurch for some years. Miss Rene Morgan, has been accepted as a member of the Halle Orchestra of Manchester.
Miss Morgan was bom in Greymouth, and was educated at the Greymouth Convent, where she first learnt music. In 1953 she went to London and studied at the aoya! Academy of Music for two years and a half. When she returned to New Zealand in 1955 Miss Morgan taught music at Rangi-ruru College for about six months as a relieving teacher, and at St. Bede's College for about a year. String Quartet During her time n Christchurch she played for the University String Quartet. She was also a member of the John Ritchie Orchestra from its inception. Miss Morgan left New Zealand for London in May, 1960 In Londm she studied music and worked at several Jobs, also making several trips on the Continent.
She was selected to play the violin in the Halle Orchestra after an audition in the Festival Hall. Landon. Miss Morgan plavs both the piano and the violin.
