Netball In England

Miss Betty Stone, a Canterbury basketball referee, is at present in England. She was an official guest at the netball test match between England and Jamaica, for which the stadium (seating 8500) was booked out. Miss Stone said that the organisation was excellent, games started promptly and the standard of play was high. Both umpires were dressed in tweed suits and wore heavy, flat shoes, which contrasted strangely with the neat New Zealand white uniform with black blazers. Miss Stone noticed all umpires had two pencils attached to their whistle cords. During the game the crowd booed the referee on many occasions. England won the test Miss Stone hopes to attend referees’ coaching schools while in/fagland.
