Cricket AUSTRALIAN TOUR

Rain Curtails Play Again

(NX Press Assn.—CopurigtU) CHESTERFIELD. May 5 Although there is no hope of a result in the Australians’ match against Derbyshire, which will end today, the day’s play is vital to the tourists. They badly need the practice and they are hoping for as much play as possible. So far there has been only 65 minutes in which the Australians have lost two wickets for 33. W. Lawry stepped on his wicket and R. N. Harvey was caught and bowled. C. C. McDonald (16) and P. Burge (3) will resume the innings. But it is the bowlers, particularly L. Kline and G. McKenzie, who need the practice today. They are not tn the team to play Yorkshire. The team, in probably batting order is: R. Simpson, Lawry, Harvey, N. O'NeiH. Burge, B. Booth, K. Mackay. A. K. Davidson, W. Grout, F Misson. I. Quick, R. Gaunt (twelfth man). The manager of the Australian team (Mr S. G. Webb. Q.C.) last night urged that future Australian teams should arrive in England at least a fortnight before their first match, “It is essential that the players should have sufficient time to practise in case there is bad weather as there has been this time.” he said. The present touring team arrived at Tilbury just eight days before its first game at Worcester. The team had arranged for nine practice sessions at Lord's, but rain seriously curtailed the programme. Rain then washed out the equivalent of one day at Worcester and the two days on which there was play were not much value because of the soddig wicket. Scores:
