STORY HOURS AT LIBRARY
Holiday Service For Children
The children's department of the Canterbury Public Library will again hold special story-hour sessions for young people during the Mav school holidays. This year an invitation was particularly extended to children who were not already members of city libraries, said a member of the department staff yesterday. Hour-long sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays, beginning at 11 a.m. Children from the age of four years upwards will be accepted, and older children will be divided into a separate audience. Members of the staff will assist the chief librarian in presenting the stories. This year there is a particularly good selection of stories and picture books to be introduced to the children. Many old favourites wit] be included. Of special interest to younger children should be a new story called “Bhombal Dass" ("The Uncle and the Lion”), an old legend from Pakistan. For older children the well-known story of "Wiremu,” written by the New Zealand author. Stella Morris, should prove a welcome addition to the programme. Applications for admittance should be made to the children’s department of the library. There will be no charge made.
