Technical Training Week

WELLINGTON, May 5. The organisation of Commonwealth Technical Training Week—from May 29 to June 4—is proceeding apace in 23 centres throughout New Zealand. according to the Commissioner of Apprenticeship (Mr H. McQueen), who is chairman of the central committee responsible for the project. Mr McQueen said the committee’s policy of encouraging local activity as much as possible was proving most successful. Local committees, consisting mainly of representatives of industry, were busy with a variety of schemes having a bearing on technical training. The Auckland committee,
working “in a really big . way," was planning a '■window on training" exhibition at the Epsom Show » Grounds, which would be s opened by the Secretary of t Industries and Commerce j (Dr. W. B. Sutchl. Children f would be taken from school . to see the exhibits, and the f schools were being toned to . avoid traffic problems Other centres, in a less . elaborate way, were playing . their part. Organisations such s as the Rotary Clubs were t joining the project, and the churches had promised their J support b "Altogether, about 15,000 to f 20.000 persons should have i their attention drawn to the importance of technical train- >, ing," Mr McQueen said.
