Effect On Spire Work The bells of the Christchurch Cathedral will be silent during the next few weeks until the strengthening of the Cathedral spire is completed early in July. This was announced yesterday by the secretary of the Christchurch Cathedral Society of Bellringers (Mr G. N. Sloan), who said that as the work of placing the concrete had now reached the stage of pouring, the consulting engineers had recommended that bellringing be suspended until the entire framework was completed. Having observed the vibration and sway of the spire when the bells were rung, they had feared a loss of bond between the existing work and partially completed work, he said.
