GOLDEN MILE
Khorazami At Te Rapa
"The Pres*” Special Service AUCKLAND. May 5. The hurdlers and steeplechasers are beginning to attract interest everywhere and those engaged on the first day of the Waikato winter meeting at Te Rapa tomorrow will come in for particular attention. It is more than likely that many will be competing again in the Waikato Hurdles next Saturday or the Waikato Steeplechase the next week. Consequently the form they show this time should be very useful. With big races approaching, forward showings by the wellperformed jumpers, Fend, Golden Defaulter, McKenzie, Patrick Molloy and Cabot, would be especially pleasing. Except for Fend they- are all in the Peach Jumpers’ Flat and it seems that Golden Defaulter and McKenzie in particular will be hard to beat. Neither Cabot nor Patrick Molloy has the speed to run a flat course successfully. However. their appearance today will be interesting because they will be having their first race of the season. The other jumping events are the Clarkin Steeplechase, for which Fend is an acceptor, and the Matangi Hurdles. Both are for horses in the hack class. Fend has 10-13, which is the top weight in the Clarkin Steeples. The hardest for him to beat might be Lombard, a visitor from Awapuni, and Ballador. another visiting competitor. The double will be on the Golden Mile and the Maeroa Handicap, for which Khorazaml and Fair Merit look good prospects. Unusually dry weather has caused the ground to keep very firm for this time of the year. Unless there Is a sudden change the going will be excellent.
