WOODVILLE FIRST LEG
Picaroon In Form
"The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, May 5. The inclusion of picaroon. Embrace and Arid ensures a keen contest in the May Handicap, the first leg of the T.AJB. double, at the Woodville meeting tomorrow. Picaroon Is on the crest of form, under both handicap and standard scale conditions. Embrace was runner-up in the Hawke's Bay Cup at his last start and Arid, with the promise of reasonably firm going, is capable of capping his latest minor placings. The second leg of this double is the Telegraph Handicap, which bears an open appearance. The likely favourites are Beau Kura and Toureg. Both have shown their best when the going has been soft or heavy, but the Woodville track always carries a solid sole of grass and provides springy footing which should allow both to show their true worth. Another feature will be the Gaisford Memorial Steeplechase. which has attracted a large field of good jumpers. Notable among them are the Te Rapa visitor, Dunray, Orelino and West Derby, which will be bracketed on the totalisator, Brent. Havoc and Parasol. On condition Brent, Orelino and Parasol may have the edge on their rivals. • The weather continues fine and the outlook is good. The track should provide first-class footing, firm without any sting.
