Irregular Ballot At Forbury

The Forbury Park Trotting Club apparently continues to experience difficulty interpreting the Rules of Trotting governing dual acceptors.

The club had to reduce the field for the Farewell Handicap tomorrow by five to bring it to the safety limit. Mighty Loyal and Gay Baron

are engaged earlier in the Queen's Handicap, but Lavengro. Queen's Glow, and Queenson. the other horses eliminated, were acceptors only for the Farewell Handicap. In addition, the club left eight horses, all of which are acceptors for the Queen’s Handicap, in the field for the Farewell Handicap. They are Waitaki Child, Aquaplane, Gildirect, Zany, Peebles. Takitimu. Zenith, and Highland Heath. According to the Rules of Trotting, where a horse has deemed to have survived a ballot, it is the first horse to be eliminated when it is found necessary to rectuce a field to the safety limit. Although no eliminations were necessary from the Queen’s Handicap, the eight horses allowed a second start are deemed to have survived a ballot. The five horses eliminated should all have come from among the horses accepting for two races. The Forbury club has been a persistent offender in irregular balloting and eliminating. Horses such as Lavengro, Queen’s Glow, and Queenson have extremely limited opportunities during the remainder of the season and it is probable that they will nave to survive another ballot te obtain a start at the Canterbury Park club’s meeting on May 27. The Canterbury Park meeting will probably gi<e them their only remaining opportunities this season.

Support for Design Association.—The council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce has lent its “enthusiastic support” to the New Zealand Design Association. Tlie chamber has been invited to' send representatives to the association’s meetings.
