TWO FIRES IN VEHICLES

Units from Christchurch fire stations were called to two fires in vehicles within an hour yesterday morning. At 7.38 a.m, a unit from the Central station was called to Fitzgerald avenue, where a car owned by Peter John Gray, of 189 Marshland road, was on fire. There was slight damage from the fire, which was caused by a short circuit. At 819 am. a unit from Sockburn was called to a fire in a motor-cycle at 164 Aorangi road. The machine, owned by Bruce Melville Brooks, caught fire when it backfired through the carburettor. It was the second time in two days that a unit had been called to put out a fire in Mr Brooks’s motorcycle. the previous fire having also been caused by a backfire through the carburettor.
