CHURCHES APPEAL
£36,000 In N.Z.
Till April 15, £36.000 had been received from churches in New Zealand in response to the National Council of Churches’ Christmas appeal. Further contributions are still being received, according to the council's latest bulletin. An article entitled “Appeal Over-subscribed," states that the executive has already been able to send overseas funds to cover practically all the projects listed in the appeal leaflet produced last year. Last month it was also decided to send further contributions of £lOOO to the Congo. £lOOO to Chile, £360 to India, and £5OO to the Cameroons. Letters received by the council from all over the Dominion mentioned numerous means by which the enclosed donations had been earned, said the report. One contributor wrote that it was strangely appropriate that his donation had been obtained through the tutoring of Asian students during a two-week summer school for Colombo Plan students held recently at Victoria University, Wellington.
