PROGRESS IN CANTERBURY

Canterbury was now really on the move industrially. Mr D. M. Walker, the Australian Trade Commissioner in Christchurch since 1959. said last evening. Mr Walker. who is scheduled to leave New Zealand this month for Noumea and Fiii before returning to Australia for leave and renesting, will be succeeded in Christchurch by Mr S. D Shubart.
Speaking at a farewell function given him by the Canterbury Public Relations Office Mr Walker said: “In the two year* I have been in Christchurch I have seen real progress.”
“Australia has learned to forge ahead and Canterbury is now doing the same.” Mr Walker paid tribute to the Canterbury Public Relations Office and to the Canterbury Public Relations Officer (Mr E. G. Beckett). He said he had kept in close touch with Mr Beckett and the liaison had been mutually helpful.
Mr Shubart. a senior member of the Trade Commissioner Service who has served in Bombay, Cairo. Johannesburg, and Bangkok, is scheduled to arrive in Christchurch today.
