Company Ceases Shipments
Delays which occurred when two vessels of the Indo-China Steam Navigation Company were at Lyttelton have caused the company to cease direct shipments to the port, according to a letter from a Dunedin timber importer received at a meeting of the council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce last evening. “When I received this letter I realised that this was a matter of urgency " said the president (Mr R. H Clark). He had written to the general manager of the company apologising and saying that the chamber did not believe that the circumstances would recur, and pointing to the expansion of port facilities and the road tunnel. "It was really an exhortation for the company to reconsider direct shipments to the port,” said Mr Clark. The council approved his action.
