BEE REPELLENT SOUGHT
Chemical Control Of Crop Pests
If a bee repellent could be found which could be added to certain sprays and hormonise fertilisers it would enable necessary control work to be carried out at a time when bees were being attracted to flowering clovers, said Mr F. M. Henderson at the quarterly meeting of the Dominion agriculture produce section council of Federated Farmers in Christchurch yesterday. He produced a clipping of a news item which described the use in keeping bees away of aniseed in jam baits for opossum poisoning. Some crops had to be protected or they were lost during the time bees were at work, he said. For example, there was aphis control on brassica crops.
