ROTARY CLUB AUCTION

Wide Variety Of Donations Goods of a surprising variety and value have been given by residents and businesses in and about Rangiora in the course of an excellent response to the appeal by the Rangiora Rotary Club for goods to be sold at a monster auction on Saturday, May 13. to supplement the funds for a new Rangiora scout den. A 1930-31 model Roosevelt car, believed to be the only one in New Zealand, a caravan and a piano in very good order, are among the most recent acquisitions received from private individuals. The canvassing was first directed at this section of the community about two weeks ago when Rotary club members began systematically telephoning as many residents as possible.

The initial approach, a week earlier, to the business establishments of the town resulted in the donation of four refrigerators, three marine motors complete and ready for installation, a radiogram, rotary mowers and chain saws, clothes driers, a washing machine and an electric sewing machine as well as radios and various household electrical appliances. Large quantities of produce and fuel have since been given.

The Rangiora Rotary Club decided on this project at a meeting in March, the same month in which the scout committee accepted a tender of £4206 for the construction of a den on its site In Church street. The building fund, at that time, was £l5OO less than the contract price. In the event Of more money being raised than required to complete the fund, the surplus will be used on furnishings for the den or on the scout movement in the district generally.
