Vercoe ' falsely pretended to Bazil ' Thorite, that he took part in kidnapping his son and that ‘ the boy was all right except 1 for a slight cut to the face. : He also claimed that the boy was in good health and very brave. He said he knew the boy’s whereabouts and that he was in a position to arrange for his return for £25.000, it was alleged.
