NEW STRAIN OF PERSIAN CAT
Cameo Kitten Bred In N.Z.
A “new look” in Persian cats which is expected to create interest among fanciers in New Zealand is the deli-cately-tinted “cameo" strain This is the name given to a colour developed in the last four years in America. Now, for only the second time in New Zealand, a cameo Persian cat has been bred by Miss S. M. Tasker, of Wellington. As the result of correspondence with Dr. Rachel Salisbury. of Wiconsin, who developed the colour, Miss Tasker has a beautiful male kitten bred from a cream Persian mother and a chinchilla Persian father. She has named it Crystal Cameo The kitten’s colour resembles spun hokey-pokey, or a luminous cameo brooch Litter of Four It is three months old and was one of a litter of four. Another kitten i nthe litter is cameo-coloured but is not such a good specimen. Miss Tasker has been enrolled as a member of the Cameo Cat Club of America as a result of her success. The only other person known to have bred a cameo Persian cat in New Zealand is Mr H. Arthur, of Hamilton. who is vice-president of the Pedigree Persian Cat Fanciers ot New Zealand Miss Tasker is secretary of the society. The cameos will probably be shown at the society’s first iall-Persian show to be held in Wellington in June.
