INDONESIA ANGRY
Annoyance At Menzies (NZ.P.A -Reuter—Copyright) JAKARTA, May 1. Jakarta is seething with anger and resentment at the statement by the Australian Prime Minister (Mr Menzies) supporting Dutch sovereignty over West New Guinea, according to Associated Press. A senior Cabinet Minister who declined to be identified said: “Menzies is very undiplomatic and discourteous, and his statements are tantamount to kicking our officials in the back." The Indonesian Army Chief of Staff (General Abdul Nasution) returned to Jakarta last night after his visit to Australia. New Zealand, and the Philippines. He warned that Indonesia is prepared to settle tile New Guinea dispute “either by liquidation or by normalisation.” He did not clarify the statement but his aides said this meant either by complete liquidation of the Dutch or by normalisation of relations with the Netherlands—depending on how far the Dutch were willing to yield to Indonesia's demands. “If the Dutch are still
stubborn, then Indonesia is prepared for the worst,” General Nasution added.
