SOCCER TOUR
N.Z, Captain Injured (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 2. The New Zealand soccer captain, J. Warrender, may not be available for matches against the English soccer team next month. Warrender, right half for Wellington’s Railways Club, has a back injury which is expected to keep him out of the game for at least two weeks. He was to have played in a special trial match at Aucklnd on Wednesday evening. If he cannot recover in time—the English tour starts at Dunedin on May 31, and the first test is at Wellington on June s—he will be the second Wellington international to miss matches against the tourists. Warrender captained New Zealand in its great win over the Costa Ricans at Auckland in 1959. and toured New Caledonia last year. The sharp-shooting Wellington and New Zealand centre-forward. J. Raat, is certain to be out. He broke an ankle in a club match on Saturday. Mr R. G. Groves, the Wellington selector-coach, has been chosen as the New Zealand team manager for the first test at Wellington.
