BROAD BEAN GROWERS
Dispute With Cannery (N.Z. Press Association) HASTINGS, May 2. Growers of broad beans for New Zeeland Foods, Ltd. Hastings, have threatened not to grow for the company unless their price is increased. Today. the company offered growers an additional farthing a lb, making the price it is now offering a flat rate of 3}d a lb. The secretary of the Hastings Vegetable Produce Growers’ Federation, Mr N. C. Anderson, said that it was not certain that the growers would accept the offered increase. The federation is holding its annual meeting tomorrow night Today, the management of the company refused to meet a 12-man deputation of growers, but agreed to meet the secretary of the New Zealand Produce Vegetable Growers’ Federation, Mr A. W. Goble (Wellington) and the Dominion process division president of the federation, Mr F. Wills (Nelson), the president of the Hastings branch of the federation, Mr A. C. Jessop, and Mr Anderson. Later, after conferring for two hours, the company's secretary-manager, Mr M. Posner, agreed to meet the deputation.
