1132 SUGGESTIONS ON IMPROVING ARMY

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON. May 2. Soldiers handed in 1132 suggestions for improving army methods and conditions during the first-ever concerted suggestions campaign to be run by the New Zealand Army. Suggestions which covered all fields of army activity are now being checked and already some financial rewards have been made where it is clear that an idea will be of benefit to army efficiency. says the Army Information Service. Although quite a few of the suggestions were impracticable and did not tit in with the systems of the army accounting and supply organisations, many gave a

new angle on persistent problems and have been provisionally adopted for investigation. Very few suggestions related to food, the old-time soldiers' traditional grumble. Many of the ideas concerned the army’s request for the “combination, elimination or simplification of forms or reports,” or “improvements of methods of existing operations whether administrative or otherwise.”

Others answered requests for ideas on “improvement of equipment, savings in time or cost of operations, elimination of waste, staff training, environments and safety.” received varied from machine designs to the re-designing of forms. Several useful suggestions had no relation to the army at all and these will be handed on to appropriate departments and other authorities, the organisers say.
