Blue Beard At Matamata The Gordohton Plate, a set-weight event for hacks at Te Rapa on Saturday week, eould provide the Matamata gelding, Blue Beard, with an opportunity to add to his good record. Blue Beard, an effortless winner at his last three starts, is one of the most promising hacks in the north. The Gordonton Plate is open to horses which are hacks at the time of nomination, and three-year-olds such as Blue Beard have to carrv 8-0 ft is likely that in an ordinary seven furlongs hack race Blue Beard would have to carry more than 10-0 under the winter scale of weights ' A chestnut gelding by Blueskin II from Melbern. Blue Beard is trained at Matamata by R. F. Cole. Cole has always had a small team, but has had some good horses, including Arganda. a record breaking sprint winner at Trentham. Fair Chance and Special Script. Fair Chance was trained by Cole as a two and three-year-old, and won the Great Northern Foal Stakes at odds of 100 to 1,
Another promising youngster in Cole’s team at present is Prince Judah, which ran promisingly but greenly in bis few starts as a two-year-old this season. Prince Judah furnished into a magnificent anima] while being spelled and is being prepared for early three-year-old racing. Prince Judah is a chestnu* by Blueakin H, sire of Blue Beard. from Elanot, a daughter of the good galloper Galilee. If be is as good as he looks he may develop into an outstanding three-year-old.
