C.0.R.5.0. Appeal The house-to-house appeal organised in the city and suburbs last Saturday by C.0.R.5.0 has now realised £10,236. This was announced by the appeal organiser (Mr G. H. Coley) late yesterday afternoon. There were, however, still further figures expected during the next few days, he said. Highest Hut For the last nine days, a group of men have been climbing 3000 ft to work every morning. The result of their labours has been the completion of the. highest hut in New Zealand, the Dome Hut, at 860Qft near the crater lake on Mount Ruapehu. The hut was made fit for use yesterday. and will be used as a shelter for skiers and mountaineers caught bv unfavourable weather on Mount Ruapehu.—(P.A.) Hospital Loan Subscriptions to the North Canterbury Hospital Board development loan totalled £32,690 at noon yesterday. All the sections were full except those for nine and 10year terms, where £67,310 at 4 7-8 per cent, is still to be taken up. The loan will close about mid-June., Gifts To Y.M.C.A. Gifts and promises of money have b’en made towards the Young Men’s Christian Association’s refugee programme since Mr Douglas Dean’s talks in Christchurch last month. A gift of £lOO hr: been made and also a promise of £2O if five others give the same ’mount. Four girls. Brenda E'lmer*. Helen Butcher. Gillian Howes, and Annette Cornwall, who set un a roadside stall, raised £2 Ils. which they sent to the association. Telephone Contract A contract has been let for the installation of about 400 telephones in the Shirley exchange area. The subscribers will not be connected until about August, when extensions are completed at the exchange. Special Mail Many envelopes received at Auckland for inclusion in the twenty-first Tasman airmail to Sydney were addressed to New Zealand adresses These envelopes were forwarded in the mail on April 30, ard will be returned from Australia by the first surface mail. Mother Of Quads Mrs C. I. Mason, mother of the quadruplets born on Good Friday, has returned to her home at Tawa. The babies will remain for some time in Wellington Hospital where they are continuing to progress. Mrs Mason has two other young children.—(P.A.) Health Stamps This year's health stamps will be on sale on August 2 They will feature the white heron (kotuku) on the 3d (2d postage, Id health) denomination, and the bush hawk (kareara) on the 4d (3d postage. Id health), said the Postmaster-General (Mr Kinsella) yesterday The designs follow the theme begun tn 19’9 of featuring native New Zealand birds. The stamps will remain on sale until November 30. 1961 Photographs of proofs of the stamps are not yet available.—(P A.) Fish Supplies A small quantity of crayfish at 4s a pound was available in Christchurch fish shops yesterday There was a moderate supply of most kinds of fish. Ling cost 2s to 2s 3d a pound, gurnard was 2s 3d to 2s 6d a pound, and tarakihi fillets were from 3s to 3s 6d a pound. Kollection Many passers-by stopped and stared as a party of 25 students dressed in sacks ran whooping and yelling through the square at 12.30 p.m. yesterday. The students carried a banner reminding the public of the collection to be made on behalf of the Cholmondeley Memorial Children’s Home today after the procession. Fijian Produce The first direct consignment of Fijian taro, egg fruit, and green ginger for some months was sold in a Christchurch produce market yesterday. The shipment was discharged from the Matua at Lyttelton last week. Taro sold at 28s a case, green ginger at 2s 9d a pound, and egg fruit at 5s a case. There were good supplies of water melons from Motueka. costing from 4d to 6d a pound.
