Australian Charged ( N Z .P.A.-Reuter-—Copyright) SYDNEY, May 1. An employee of a Sydney Hire-purchase firm. Universal Guarantee Pty.. Ltd., admitted embezzling more than £lOO.OOO and losing it on racehorses when he appeared in the Central Court today. He was William Raymond Moffit. aged 32. He was committed for sentence after pleading guilty to the charge. It was alleged that he stole £53.416 7s from the company between 1955 and 1960.
When he pleaded guilty an inch-thick folder of statements and a cardboard earton of company records were submitted as evidence. The Court was told that Moffit embezzled the money by making out bogus hirepurchase agreements and cashing cheques which were to have been paid to the fictitious dealers.
