SPECTACLES FOR INDIA
j Hamilton Club Drive "The Press” Special Service HAMILTON, May 1. A "spectacles to India" drive being organised by the Hamilton Lions Club is making great strides in city schools. With the co-operation of the South Auckland Education Board, the Lions Club has sent out 8000 circulars asking parents and friends to assist in collecting used spectacles and cases. The Lions movement in India will distribute the spectacles after they have been tested and sorted. Then will come the job of distribution—the recipients also having to have their eyes tested. Dr. C. D. Bovack, chairman of the Lions Club committee for sight coonservation and help for the blind in Hamilfor sight conservation and spectacles will be put to good use. particularly by students in India.
In an earlier phase of the drive 115 pairs were boxed ■and despatched. In addition to collecting spectacles the committee is working on projects such as the provision of talking books and higher grading of the partly sighted or blind in their present occupations. Placement of people so afflicted is also part of the committee’s work.
