WORLD WAR VETERANS
Tributes At Reunion
Members of the Overseas Women War Workers’ Association stood in silence at the recent annual meeting and reunion to honour three veterans of the First World War, whose deaths had occurred in the last year. They were the late Miss M. Thurston, 0.8. E., late Matron-in-chief, Army Nursing Service. World War I: Dr. Jessie Scott, a member of the first Scottish Women’s Medical Unit going to Serbia in 1914, and also the first New Zealander on active service with the Save the Children team; Miss B. Nurse, first matron of the No. 1 General Hospital. Brockenhurst, England. After the meeting, Mr J. Watling showed slides of prize-winning gardens in Christchurch. This was a special pleasure to many of the members who through failing health had not been able to go and see the gardens for themselves.
The following officers were elected: president. Miss J. Okey; vice-presidents, Mrs J. L. Hay, Misses J. Erwin, M. G. Havelaar; secretarytreasurer, Miss A. Fleming; committee. Misses E. Hodges, C. Roger, M. Christmas, E. Wilson, K. Ensor.
