VICTORIA LEAGUE CONTINGENT
Successful Year Reported
A housie-housie evening, held by the Young Contingent of the Victoria League in Canterbury, raised money for the Save the Children Fund. The Young Contingent sponsors six children under the fund, and its representative on the North Canterbury branch is Mr C. Averill. This was reported in the contingent's annual report. Four cocktail parties were held during the year, and the contingent combined with the parent body in running the jubilee ball last year. At this function, debutantes were presented to the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand (Sir Francis CummingBruce).
Another function was a trip to Hanmer, when members met for a picnic lunch and golf and tennis. A parade of furs was also held, when members of the senior league modelled fur garments. A talk was given on the different types of furs and their treatment. Mr R. K. Godfrey represented the Young Contingent on the Christchurch Junior Council, where he was the vice-president. During the year, 42 members were given introduction cards to the London headquarters.
