Three Springs Water Supply
Sir,—Regarding the proposed new and larger pipeline for Fairlie township from Three Springs. I have made inquiry about the rural supply from this proposed pipeline and I understand that the details of dealing with the rural portion have not been worked out yet. I maintain that before there are any further developments all details should be worked out first. I understand that Fairlie township is to bear all the security for any loan which may be granted for their new pipeline. In the event of any rural area being supplied with water from this line, I maintain that all charges in the rural area should be on a basis similar to the Downlands scheme, where there is an equitable system of charges For supplying people in any rural area, may I ask what method is usedgravitation or pumping? The Mackenzie County Council should supply us with fuller information at an early date. —Yours, etc.. DONALD MeRAE.
Albury, April 12, 1961. [Mr W. B. Trotter, chairman of the Mackenzie County Council, said that the correspondent’s property was outside any area likely to be served from this system. Those concerned with the levying of charges in the rural area were fully aware of the need for these to be equitable, and this was not lost sight of. The Fairlie water supply was a gravitation scheme.]
