PETROL FIRE
Engines Avert Spread (N.Z Preu Association) AUCKLAND, April 30. Six fire engines and emergency crews were called out in Auckland yesterday when there was a threat of widespread fire in the waterfront bulk installation plants of the Standard Vacuum Oil Company. The fire, which was extinguished by high pressure fog, was about 20 yards from the nearest tank but close enough to do major damage if the searing flames from pools of petrail had got out of control. The fire occurred when oil company engineers were changing feed pipes. The pipes held a small residue of petrol and this spilled on the ground near the footpath.
