LONDON, April 3t. The Governor-General (Viscount Cobham) was I elected president at the Lon* don-New Zealand Cricket Club at a special general meeting this evening at the . Oval headquarters at the Surrey County Cricket Club. He succeeds Mr E. R. T. ' Holmes, the club’s first presi- , ent, who died last August, to , whom Lord Cobham was , vice-eaptain during the M.C.C. tour of New Zealand , in 1935-36. The Prime Minister (Mr , Holyoake) and the High Commissioner for New Zealand (Mr T. L Macdonald) ; were elected vice-patrons. Mr G. O. Allen, ehairman of the English selectors, who ' toured New Zealand with Douglas Jardine's team, was elected vice-president and the English captain. P. B. H. May, was elected an honorary member. Evening at the Oval to launch thk new season, in which their first XI will play 18 matches, and their ‘‘lambs,” or second XI, will play four. Martin, who retires from the post The club was formed in 1961, and the limit of 200 non-playing members has now been reached. A waiting list is already beginning to grbw.
