Caduceus, the former idol of the New Zealand trotting world, raced over a rainsoaked and sodden track at Yonkers Raceway, New i York, last night to finish' third to Tar Boy and Byel Bye Bird in a mile pace. ■ The gallant New Zealand: horse finished three lengths' begind the winner arid a 1 length and three-quarters i behind Bye Bye Bird in the ■ 16.000 dollars race. ; Tar Boy, which appeared i to handle the sloppy surface! better than the rest of the I field, ran the mile in 2min 4 3-ssec Mr Budlong, which started favourite, finished fifth. The Australian and New Zealand entries for the International series. Apmat, False Slap and Arania, set a time ot 3m’ir. 9sec in an official trial yesterday at Yonkers to set their starting time for the mile and a half International Pace for 50,000 dollars at Yonkers on Thursday, May 5; The trial was not a real race as the three drivers had agreed to stay together until near the finish, the New York "Daily News" said. False Step finished half a length clear of the other two after Apmat had led all the way. although the rangy gelding was not extended by his driver. Cecil Devine.
