Tauranga Hospital expects to spend about £1 million this year. The treasurer, Mr N. Wells said at the weekend that the estimated expenditure ot £932,741 included £398,047 for maintenance, £67,394 for payments from grants and £467,300 for payments from loans. The estimate last year was £820,484 but-actual payments totalled £676,372.
Mr Wells said receipts last year totalled £676,372, including £101,918 for patients’ fees from social security, £26.810 from Government grants for maintenance and £lOO,OOO from a loan. The expenditure, he said, had increased by £84,718 compared with the previous year.
The £lOO,OOO loan raised In September had been considerably over-subscribed, and £40,000 had been returned to subscribers. The nursing and trainee staff required for the forthcoming year would be 185. The 216 beds available in the hospital included 186 for general purposes and 30 in th« maternity section. Good progress was being made, Mr Wells said, on the new five-storey hospital block, to cost £1 million.
