BRITANNIA DELAYED
Royal Couple At Sardinia
(NZ -Reuter—Copyright) CAGLIARI, April 29. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have been delayed in Sardinia on their way to Italy for a state visit because of propellor trouble in the Royal yacht, Britannia. The Royal yacht could, not leave harbour until tomorrow, «n officer of the Italian Navy Command in Sardinia told Reuter tonight. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh arrived at Sardinia airport today from London and then went by car to Cagliari to see the Queen Mother before she flew back to London after her visit to Tunisia.
The Queen Mother had arrived in Cagliari in the Royal yacht.
The Queen and the Duke were scheduled tonight to leave aboard the Britannia on a brief Mediterranean cruise before landing at Naples on May 2 to begin their state visit to Italy.
The Britannia’s propeller fouled a wire in entering Cagliari harbour this morning. Divers were working to free it, a spokesman of the Royal yacht told Reuter. The Italian State visit, which will officially start in Rome next Tuesday, will be the first state visit to Italy by a reigning British monarch since 1923.
